What I do ...
I am currently employed as a Multimedia Developer within Information Technology Services (ITS); Massey University's Central IT service provider.
My position resides in the Customer Services Section of ITS and I report directly to the Customer Services Manager, Assistant Director *Linda Goldsmith. I have been with ITS since July 2004 and my role is diverse in both Technical and Planning aspects.
My duties range from: providing technical expertise in multimedia services to the University including; web design and content management, DVD, CD, Digital media and print; to providing planning and advice in the use of multimedia technology to support research and teaching as well as various administrative functions ranging from server administration to proposal preparation, documentation and reporting.
I have excellent interpersonal skills and a recent example of this in effect is in successfully initiating Massey University's Richmedia Pilot project utilising Sonicfoundry's Mediasite technologies. It was during this period I was required to work with a range of staff from regional audio visual staff, campus IT staff, Infrastructure System staff, Web Services, academics, suppliers and Victoria University counterpart to deliver the outcome of the pilot project in a timely manner.
I am proficient in the use of a wide range of multimedia applications: Adobe Premier, Encore and After Effects; Dreamweaver, Fireworks, CorelDraw, CorelPhotopaint. I have experience in using Flash, Adobe PhotoShop and Audition, Xara, Autocad, Freehand, Authorware and I am able to transfer my skills between applications if required.
Noted Achivements:
- Mediasite Pilot:
Initiation of and investigation into rich media lecture room recordings - which culminate to the establishment of Proof of Concept phase. After determining that there is a demand, I was instrumental in formalising a Mediasite Pilot Project that encompassed all three campuses. This proposal was supported and funded by university in 2006 as a proof of concept phase and in 2007 as a formal Pilot Project.
- Consultancy
Liaise, consult and offer advice to academic staff members, groups and committees in the funding request phase of FIET proposals as well as other teaching and research funding proposals and projects.
- Training/Facilitating
Training of IT campus support staff and audio visual regional IT staff across all 3 campuses in the use of Mediasite recorders and recording techniques to facilitate the induction of those staff into the Mediasite Pilot Project.
Key performance indicators:
- Provide technical support and consultancy for projects, as required, which may include project management, feasibility studies, implementation or release planning or the construction of costings for development proposals.
- Advise the Assistant Director - Customer Services on the efficient and effective use of multimedia technology in the provision of Multimedia services to support teaching, research and administrative functions.
- Provide project management advice and support for multimedia projects.
- Advise users on the appropriate use of multimedia technology in line with University publication strategy, policy and practice.
- Provide technical expertise in multimedia services to the University with regard to accessibility, Intellectual Property (IP), security and copyright.
- Design, develop and run training courses for specific multimedia topics and applications.
- Develop and maintain expertise in a defined range of current and new multimedia technologies, including web content management technologies, DVD, CD, Digital media and print.
- Pro-actively investigate new products and technologies and make purchase recommendation or develop business cases as necessary.
